The Sacred Heart Youth Choir enlivens the liturgy at the 9:30am Family Mass every Sunday, September through June. The choir members are in grades 3 to 8. They practice every Wednesday evening from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in the church. They are accompanied by the Sacred Heart Choir Band, a group of volunteer parishioners.

The choir sings at the Roslindale Village Tree Lighting, carols with the parish at Christmas Time, takes part in the Christmas Pageant and the Easter Services. The culmination of the choir season is the Youth Choir Jamboree in February. This Jamboree is a gathering of local choirs for an afternoon of song and praise.

The Jamboree was the inspiration of Fr. Bob Maguire who served at Sacred Heart Parish for many years. The Jamboree is named in his honor and rotates through the participating parishes. Below is the dedication which has appeared in every jamboree program.

Youth Choir Jamboree Dedication

Reverend Robert E. Maguire, S.J.

The Reverend Robert E. Maguire, S.J. served at Sacred Heart Parish for 17 years. He loved children, liturgical celebration, and community outreach. He originated the idea of having a gathering of parish and youth choirs for a festival, 'a way to bring the children and community together with music,' he said.

His inspiration, which began in 1996 came to fruition for the first time on January 7, 1997 at Sacred Heart Church in Roslindale and has continued at different area Parishes every year since.

Sadly, Fr. Maguire died suddenly of a heart attack just one month before the date of the first Jamboree. We dedicate this Jamboree to his memory. We know he is always with us to guide us on. His artwork, the image of The Risen Christ, adorns this program.
