Fall 2005Sister Virginia Honored at Reception

by Carole Anne Scott

On Sunday, July 17, following the 11:00 a.m. Mass, parishioners and friends had an opportunity to say good-bye to pastoral associate, Sister Virginia Bobrowski, who was about to leave for a year’s sabbatical as president of her alma mater, Academy of the Holy Angels in Demarest, New Jersey. After Communion, Sister briefly addressed those assembled at the Mass. She spoke of the amazing surprises that God offers us and stated that the opportunity to assist her former school was one of those unexpected calls. It was one that she could not turn down.

Despite the summer’s day and summer vacation schedules, Sacred Heart’s parish hall was packed with well-wishers offering Sister their congratulations on her new position. Enjoying a delightful luncheon, they sat at tables and chatted with Sister into the afternoon. Beautiful flowers and an enormous cake added to the festivities.

On hand with camera in hand was Rev. Timothy Kearney who cheerfully snapped pictures of Sister with each family and friend present at the party. Father was planning to make a photo album for Sister Virginia to take with her. Our hope is that it will serve as a reminder to her that this is not “good-bye,” but rather “au revoir” until her return in a year’s time.

We wish Sister Virginia every success in her new position as Sister President, yet we hope that she is just unsuccessful enough to ensure her return among us next year. With many thanks for all that Sister has done at Sacred Heart, we wish her every grace and blessing in her new role.
